Voice Quality MOS for smartphones and networks are vital for ensuring high-quality voice communication. By monitoring and analyzing key KPIs such as MOS, latency, jitter, packet loss, and others, telecom operators and device manufacturers can provide superior voice services, enhance user satisfaction, and maintain a competitive edge in the market. Mean Opinion Score (MOS):
The Mean Opinion Score, or MOS as it is now widely known, assesses the quality of voice of calls using a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest quality) based on the scientific algorithm POLQA ™.

POLQA™ MOS scores:

  • Score 1: means that despite great effort, it is impossible to understand what is being said during the call (the call repeatedly cuts in and out).

  • Score 2:  means the quality is not good and a lot of effort is needed to understand.

  • Score 3:  indicates an acceptable level of quality and fairly understandable conversation.

  • Score 4:  is a good quality level, understandable with minor interference noise.

  • Score 5:  is an excellent quality level, understandable discussion without interference noise.

Factors Affecting Speech Quality: Several factors impact the MOS score in a telecommunications context, including:

  • Network Performance: Latency, jitter, and packet loss during transmission can degrade voice quality.

  • Codec Quality: Different codecs compress and decompress audio data, and their efficiency can affect sound quality.

  • Echo and Noise: Background noise and echo can also reduce the clarity and intelligibility of speech.
